Côte-Rôtie AOC
Overview
Côte-Rôtie (“Roasted Slope”) is the northern sentinel of the Rhône Valley and one of France’s most prestigious wine appellations, producing elegant, perfumed Syrah from impossibly steep terraced hillsides. Established in 1940, this tiny AOC represents Syrah at its most refined—fragrant, silky, and complex, often co-fermented with up to 20% Viognier to add floral lift and stabilize color. The appellation’s two legendary slopes, the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, create wines of distinct character that have commanded premium prices since Roman times.
