Valdeorras DO
Overview
Valdeorras is the easternmost wine region of Galicia and the birthplace of Godello, Spain’s most exciting white grape variety. Established as a DO in 1945, this mountainous region along the Sil River has emerged from obscurity to become one of Spain’s most acclaimed white wine sources, with Godello achieving international recognition for its mineral intensity, fresh acidity, and remarkable aging potential. The region’s dramatic slate terraces, similar to those in Germany’s Mosel, create wines of finesse and precision that rival the finest white wines of Europe.
